Purpose is the intention to accomplish something that is meaningful to a person and of consequence to the world around them. It can be big or small, but tends to be something that a person feels a persistent desire to learn about, engage with, and act upon, even if they don’t quite know how to do so.

And when they do act upon it, the outcome matters to them and others.

What do you mean by “expertise”?

Expertise is the practical mastery of a skill or a domain. It is something we learn by doing it in the real world, not just by reading about it or watching videos (though both can be very helpful along the way!).

Unlike abstract knowledge that is quickly and easily forgotten, expertise tends to stay with us.

Why does Purpose-Driven Expertise matter?

In our lives, we find the most meaning when we are able to act on our purpose to impact the world around us. And the more expertise a person has that aligns to their chosen purpose, the more likely it is that the world will seek out that person to do what they find deeply meaningful.

Absolutely not! Our purposes evolve over time as we gather experiences and expand our relationships. Something that was deeply motivating at one time might be overtaken by something else that draws our energy and focus now. Few people have just one purpose that persists for a lifetime.
